Ballerina Dinosaur Party

Our little Three-Rex, Story, celebrated her third birthday with a Pink Ballerina Dinosaur themed party. We had a roaring good time planning all of the little details to create that Jurassic Park meets Swan Lake feel.

Grand Entrance:

Out front, we had a gigantic inflatable brontosaurus sprinkler that we purchased from Pottery Barn Kids to greet the guests as they walked in. The kids had so much fun playing outside throughout the party, and some of the adults couldn’t resist joining in on the fun too. Dinosaur footprints led the guests throughout the house to make it known that there had been a Dino friend lurking around.

Photo Booth:

I created a hot pink Jeep Wrangler out of pieces of leftover cardboard to mimic the one featured in the original Steven Spielberg film, Jurassic Park, with an added feminine flare. The vines hanging off the rooftop were a fun little detail that made it really come to life. Family and friends snapped fun little photos throughout the party, and had a dino-riffic time.

Decorations:

Another decorative touch that really drove home the Jurassic feel were the binoculars that I made from recycled toilet paper rolls glued together, painted black, wrapped in gold craft paper and tied with ribbon. We picked up safari hats and a Tyrannosaurus Rex decal from Amazon for the wall that I amped up with some card stock bubble letters that I cut out by hand and a party hat.

Tablescape:

The dining table was covered with a lime green plastic table cloth and a black and white polka dot table runner that I made from leftover wrapping paper. My favorite decorative details were definitely the dinosaur figures that I spray painted gold and handmade tulle tutus and mini party hats for each of them. It was a bit of a tedious job hand stitching little skirts, but I was really excited with how they turned out. I used them as weights to line the table with green balloons. We also scattered large green leaves around the table which tied everything together beautifully.

Dessert Table:

I made the backdrop to match the table runner out of two pieces of foam core taped together and covered with matching polka dot wrapping paper. I cut out and glued on gold letters with the saying THREE REX and secured it to the wall behind the table. I made handmade tassels out of the same lime green tablecloth to the one I had used for the dining table and had them hanging as a garland in front of the table. Using the same palm leaf template that I used for the dining table,I cut out more cardstock palm leaves that I placed around the dessert table and I also integrated them into a balloon garland that I had cascading down the staircase. I used my Growsun Electric Balloon Pump to inflate all of the balloons, which made it super quick and easy to put together. This pump comes with tapes strips that keep all of the balloons together, as well as dot glues to fasten other balloons to the garland for a more full look.

Delectable Desserts:

I put a lot of work into making scrumptious treats to pull in the dinosaur theme. I made chocolate cupcakes with lime green frosting and topped them with fondant dinosaur heads and tails, which turned out super cute. My Dino cake was T-Rexific and was both decorative and delicious. I hand piped the frosting to give it texture and made fondant accents and of course a party hat out of cardstock to sit on top. The trail mix was a big hit, and I was sure to load it with dino-sour gummies to give it a unique twist. I made green jello which I put in square plastic dessert cups and topped them off with dinosaur toothpicks that I made from images I found on Google images. Finally, I picked up these chocolate Dinosaur sticks from a local Chocolatier, but you could definitely make your own using a dinosaur mold, Candy Melts and some Edible Glitter Spray.

Extra Details:

Last but not least, one of Story’s cousins showed up in an inflatable Dinosaur costume which was the perfect finishing touch. As a take home, our young guests left with dinosaur surprise eggs available through Amazon. This party was Dino-mite!
