Summer Picnic
It was a perfect summer morning… the sun was out, the birds were chirping, the breeze was light, and we managed to score the last picnic table along the Glenmore Reservoir. Jeff and I arrived bright and early to secure a table situated on a beautiful green space and overlooking a massive playground.
There were lemons, lemons everywhere in honour of my Mom, who was celebrating her birthday. What a perfect excuse to gather the family together, on a rare occasion when our schedules aligned. To set the table we brought a turquoise gingham tablecloth adorned with lemon placemats, napkins and fancy ruffled plates that we picked up from Amazon. For the centrepiece, we loaded a teal pitcher with yellow blooms.
I was in charge of dessert, and my sister, Jennifer, put together a lovely brunch. She prepared shredded beef on a bun, with a variety of condiments and fixings. She also made corn on the cob, along with a variety of summer salads. It was a real treat!
For dessert, I made a Sour Cream Lemon Blueberry Cake. It was super moist and rich in flavour, and I garnished it with fresh lemons and blueberries. To drink we had lemon spritzers, lemonade and other sparkling beverages to choose from.
The kids had a ball playing at the playground with their cousin and the other children, while the rest of us enjoyed each others company and caught up with one another. Just when we thought things couldn’t get any better, the Ice-Cream Truck pulled up. The kids went wild, and Jeff treated them to some frozen treats.
All and all, it was a perfect day celebrating my Mom, who’s simply the zest! We packed up our things, and cleared the way for next party to begin. As the saying goes, pucker up buttercup!
